I am currently watching videos of Obama speaking so I have some idea of his ideas and policies. I am currently watching a video on energy and plan on making some sort of assessment on all of this my own. Feel free to watch it yourself:

Honest Politics is… being informed!

Obama:

I like Obama! I think He’ll be good for our country. He promises change!

They know he promises change, and nobody is happy with the way things are now, so change sounds good. They know he promises jobs and a better economy and cheaper gas. Most people don’t know how he plans to provide these things, but they know he’s young and smooth and he seems to know what he’s talking about.

McCain:

I don’t exactly like McCain, but I’m still going to vote for him cause he’s not Obama.

It appears to me that those who support McCain don’t really support McCain. They support the Republican Party. I think that a lot of the people who support McCain are more informed of Obama’s policies than those who support Obama. McCain isn’t really a Republican, but he is better than a Democrat. Especially one that is as liberal as Obama.

I’m really reminded of Eddie Izzard talking about JFK and pointing out that it’s “70% how you look, 20% how you sound and only 10% what you say.” Actually, here:

The rest of it is absolutely hilarious and it’s worth picking up… but i digress.

Honestly, Obama is really doing well in that 90%, and unfortunately the race for president is as much about popularity as the race for prom king. And through it all.. i’d just like to say that

Honest Politics is… realizing that what a candidate says is important.

First, I was surprised when Honest Politics was available for a blog address.

I guess there’s not enough honest politics out there for someone to want to blog about it.

And that’s what I want to do. I want to bring up and discuss my own political views, and attempt to honestly explain why i believe this way.

First, let me explain who I am and where i’m coming from:

I’m in my twenties and after a few attempts at college I find myself working in a job I feel overqualified for making enough money to keep my head above water, yet still qualify under the united states poverty guidelines.

I spent most of my life growing up being very liberal, and I’ve found that as I’ve aged I’ve become more conservative, even though, I suppose, a lot of people in my situation are more liberal.

While I may be a small-town conservative, I’m not “bitter and clinging to my guns and religion.” I was raised to be religious, and when I moved out on my own I turned completely against it, and currently I live somewhere between atheist and believing that god is there, but not what we think he is, and not as concerned about us as we would like him to be.

Recently I’ve realized that there’s a lot of people who are not sure of what they believe in when it comes to political matters. And, unfortunately, it seems that a lot of these people are politicians. I have no desire to become a politician myself, I just desire a means to spell out and write down exactly how I feel about things, and to logically work them out. A means to compiles everything in a way where I’m honest with myself and others.
